The growing divide in energy affordability and access has accelerated the focus on ensuring an “equitable” and “just” energy transition. For years, low-income and other underserved communities have tried to cope with the rising cost of energy, but often have the least access to energy-efficient or clean energy technologies. Now several states are adopting “community solar” programs to bring solar power to low-income households and other underserved communities. Improving access to the benefits of solar is a win for the energy transition, as well as a win for equality. This panel will explore opportunities, barriers, and steps that the industry can take to achieve a more equitable and just energy transition.
