Edition 2026-09

The certification of subsea equipment and components is a conformity assessment process, requiring the verification of design details and the surveillance of manufacturing and testing activities. Certification can be used to demonstrate through the provision of documented evidence that the design and manufacturing requirements for subsea equipment and components, given in  DNV-ST-F301 have been fulfilled.

This service specification (SE) describes the certification service and the minimum level of DNV verification involvement necessary for the provision of DNV certification of subsea equipment and components, hereafter referred to as subsea equipment.

DNV certification of subsea equipment is intended to complement, and not substitute, verification of subsea facilities and systems as defined in DNV-SE-0478, which is a risk-based verification service.

This SE provides a common communication platform for describing the scope and extent of verification activities performed for the certification of subsea components.

The verification activities described in this document are mandatory for the purposes of obtaining DNV product certificates for subsea components.
