10:45 - 11:15

Digital & Technology Applications to Enhance Process Safety Management

The main objective of Process Safety Management (PSM) is to prevent the top event of Loss Of Primary Containment (LOPC).

In Bow Tie Analysis model, there are prevention barriers e.g. Emergency Shutdown System (ESD) to prevent LOPC and there also mitigation barriers e.g. automatic fire suppression to stop escalation of LOPC to major accident event (MAE). It is important to ensure that Bow Tie Analysis barriers are always effective. The digital applications and technology can be applied to ensure effectiveness of Bow Tie Analysis barriers (safeguards).

There are many use cases in Refinery and Petrochemical Plants. There is a success case of simple coding by standard Microsoft tools for Barrier Validation by Field Operator. AI agents are used for Stress Corrosion Cracking and Corrosion Under Pipe Support prediction. Drones are widely used for process equipment inspection and firefighting command team.

11:15 - 12:00

Phast and Safeti software updates and roadmap

Phast and Safeti are industry-standard tools for safety and risk analysis for major hazard facilities. This presentation will highlight key updates from the past year and outline our roadmap for the year ahead. Topics include consequence modelling with Phast CFD, transport route model enhancements, IRPA in Safeti, integration of CFD data into QRA, solid explosion modelling, improved pipeline release modelling, etc.. These advancements support more accurate, reliable, and comprehensive safety risk analyses to meet evolving industry needs.

13:30 - 14:00

Incorporating CFD Data into Safeti QRA

Traditional consequence modelling in QRA typically relies on empirical models with free-field assumptions. While effective in many scenarios, this approach can lead to overestimated or inaccurate results when obstacles, complex terrain, or mitigation measures significantly influence outcomes.
CFD-based consequence modelling addresses these limitations by accurately representing such complexities. By integrating CFD results into Safeti QRA, risk analyses can be made more accurate. This presentation will outline the integration process and illustrate its benefits through a case study.
