Future of energy: Dynamics shaping the energy transition

Rapid changes in geopolitics, heightened energy security focus, policy reversals in the US, and clean tech production and export from China are all influencing the pace and direction of the energy transition. These interconnected forces create a complex landscape that requires careful analysis and strategic planning.

We’ll deep dive into DNV’s modelling and analysis of the technology, economies, policy, and geopolitics shaping the energy transition followed by a dialogue on the implications and possible ways forward in this critical period.

Moderator: Sverre Alvik, VP and Energy Transition Outlook Director, DNV

Do NDCs take use closer to the Paris goals?

With countries submitting their updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) ahead of COP30, we face a critical question: are these updates a cause for optimism in our fight against climate change? DNV is modelling these submissions and will present our insights.

Moderator: Al-Karim Govindji, Global Head of Public Affairs, Energy Systems, DNV

AI power demand: The new energy challenge

AI’s integration into our lives is the most significant shift in online life in more than a decade. Hundreds of millions of people now regularly turn to chatbots for help with homework, research, coding, or creating images and videos. But what’s powering all of that?

Going forward, AI has further significant potential to change the way we run our societies and may affect the entire global economy. With current use dominated by energy-intensive Large Language Models (LLMs), the future will also include autonomy and agentic AI. Data centers are multiplying in numbers and energy consumption increases at an unprecedented rate. The world’s biggest tech companies have made it a top priority to ensure sufficient energy, resulting in reshaping our energy grids in the process.

AI is unavoidable. How can we make energy consumption visible and accountable. How will it impact our power grids and electricity prices?
With this as a backdrop, we invite key players to debate the increase in energy use due to AI, where we will get the energy from, and how this will influence other electricity consumers in terms of price and competition.
