EVENTS

DNV will be present on the ground at COP28 in Dubai as part of our continued commitment to helping our customers and partners navigate decarbonization and the energy transition.

As a Norway-headquartered company, DNV is proud to be part of the Norwegian business delegation to COP28 and will host several events in the Norwegian Pavilion in the COP Blue Zone. These events will bring together top DNV leaders and experts, and leading voices from the diverse range of industries DNV serves to share insights and solutions to tackle climate change.

DNV is a member of the Global Renewables Alliance, and our experts will contribute to several events at the Global Renewables Hub to discuss how to rapidly scale up renewable energy.

An overview of events in which DNV will be participating can be found below.

DNV at COP28

Sunday 3 December

Scaling renewables on the pathway to net zero

We are still in first gear in truly scaling up renewables faster in all parts of the world. What is the outlook for the different technologies (solar, wind, hydrogen), where should we focus growth most, what examples are there of policies that can help overcome the supply chain and cost challenges, and how can public-private partnerships play a role?

Managing electrification through flexible and effective grid infrastructure

There is a steep rise of renewables and electrification, and rising customer demands in the power grid, which will only increase from now to 2030 and to 2050. Grid congestion leads to the inability to connect customers, slows down growth and blocks further sustainability. This session will look at the grid scale-up required, storage solutions needed and how flexibility in the power system is needed to cope with variations and uncertainty in demand, generation and grid constraints. The session will also look at the regional variances and investment needed to deploy these solutions.

Accelerating green maritime technology development

The global shipping industry accounts for 3% of global GHG emissions, through moving 90% of all trade. The International Maritime Organization has a strategic goal for the industry to reach net zero emissions by 2050.  The event will highlight and discuss opportunities and bottlenecks to reach zero emissions by 2050, focusing on strategies for scaling up availability and use of low/zero carbon fuels and infrastructure, and how to solve the chicken–and-egg paradox of making the initial capex investments needed to scale green maritime industry.  Through the event, examples of pioneering sustainability actions and international collaboration will be showcased as imperative actions to scale and accelerate the green transition for the maritime industry.

Facilitating the energy transition and decarbonization efforts with digitalization and AI

The event will showcase and discuss progress made in decarbonization and energy transition, creating a dialogue between consumers and the production side. We will delve into the question of whether the challenge lies in a lack of technology or the willingness to adopt available technologies. We will explore the influence of digitalization and artificial intelligence on decarbonization efforts.

Blue foods for sustainable food systems

The ocean makes up 70% of earth’s surface, but seafood produced from marine and coastal waters accounts for only about 4% of the total protein intake. There is much potential to increase the sustainable production of ‘blue foods’, including low-trophic foods like bivalves and seaweed, which can then free up land and contribute to lower carbon emissions.  In this session, we will explore the role of seafood in global food systems to 2050. What will be the contribution towards a global dietary shift, how will trade develop, and how close are we in terms of meeting global ambitions for food security and the equitable distribution of healthy and sustainable food? Making blue food available and accessible to low-income regions while encouraging more seafood consumption in high-income regions should be among the priorities going forward. Traceability along the supply chain is vital for equitable distribution of blue food, protection of livelihoods, reduction of environmental impacts, and elimination of forced labour.

Green product and green operation from a finance perspective

The role of financiers in greening steel is at a critical juncture. With the high cost of transition towards green steel initiatives beyond most steel producers’ internal resources, more finance is needed to accelerate this transition. How do organizations assess the financial viability of green products and sustainable operations?
