How Fluence is accelerating speed to power for data centers

A collaboration with DNV to scale deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at data centers to enable reliable and affordable power

Our latest Energy Transition Outlook forecasts that electricity demand could surge in the years ahead. BESS will play a critical role in meeting this growing demand and balancing the power grid.

The United States has entered a new era of electricity demand growth driven by the rapid construction and expansion of data centers for AI and cloud computing.

Fluence Energy is a global leader in energy storage products and services. They set out to show hyperscale’s that BESS is a proven, today solution for achieving speed to power.

Central to achieving both this goal is building the necessary trust among all stakeholders involved in the data center and power system chain.

They commissioned DNV to interview executives from across the wide and complex U.S. data center and power ecosystem to gather insights against broader market evidence

After completing the interviews and report, DNV identified for Fluence a single core idea:  Power delivery timing and how loads behave is the constraint, not raw computing power.

What Fluence has to say:

Our joint research initiative with DNV was born from a shared recognition that the current trajectory of data center load growth and power quality impact will ultimately conflict with broader electric system priorities of maintaining reliable, affordable, and environmentally sustainable power service to all customers.

After synthesizing the perspectives of the executives at the front lines of this transition, it is clear that enabling the economic potential of AI requires energy solutions that resolve the layered challenges of data center interconnection and operations
