Reducing GHG emissions from shipping is a challenging task. Current solutions include the use of energy efficiency measures and alternative fuels. DNV is ready to assist the industry to negotiate the transition into a low carbon future. In this effort, we have developed a computational model that can be used to assess various scenarios for individual ship segments, for the industry as a whole and for evaluating the effectiveness of various solutions for reducing GHG emissions. This model can be used to help ship owners, policy makers and local authorities to develop an appropriate, robust strategy for further reducing the environmental footprint of shipping in a manner that will ensure that the industry stays the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly transport sector.
