This online course explains the concepts behind structural integrity management (SIM), focusing on the North Sea experience of fixed offshore structures, but will also touch on some aspects of floating structures.

Course description
The course aims to provide an understanding of a SIM system and how it is defined; information about the activities and key issues; an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the key stakeholders, along with the importance of effective communication between them.

Learning objective
After attending the training the participants will have an overview of: 

  • Why structural integrity management is important and how it is facilitated; 
  • What the requirements for and components of an effective SIM system are;
  • Who the key stakeholders are, their roles and responsibilities and how they interact; 
  • The activities required and an understanding of their scopes, execution and outcomes; 
  • The key issues that a structural integrity management system seeks to address. 

Target group
The main target audience is engineers working within the offshore oil and gas industry. This course is suitable for personnel seeking a general knowledge and overview of structural integrity management, including those tasked with management of the SIM process as part of an operator’s asset management team.

About the Fixed and Floating Structure Team 
The Fixed and Floating Structures Team, based in London and Aberdeen, comprises a group of highly qualified civil, structural and mechanical engineers, and naval architects who are recognized industry specialists. Our work includes the inspection management and structural analysis of offshore oil and gas fixed and floating structures, as well as offshore renewable structures. This practical experience allows the members of the unit to deliver high quality and relevant training based on practical experience.
