LONDON, UK, 11 November 2019 – The Universal Smart Energy Framework (USEF), co-developed by DNV GL, has won the award for Public Engagement for its “Balance of Power” film at the 20th Energy Institute (EI) Awards in London. The awards celebrate the achievements of the energy industry across the globe, giving recognition to individuals and organisations who take an innovative and responsible approach to solving the industry's challenges of providing society with clean, sustainable, low cost and dependable energy.
Balance of Power is an interactive film, aimed at Promoting a better understanding of the future energy system. By playing out the consequences of 25 key decisions for our future market design, this 'serious game' seeks to promote greater understanding of energy markets, energy system transition and the opportunity to solve real problems by making demand match supply rather than the other way around.
USEF was shortlisted alongside impressive projects from the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority – DEWA, the hydro and renewable energy program & Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, the Royal Mind and the University of Greenwich.
USEF was founded by seven key players, including DNV GL, active across the smart energy industry, with a shared goal to have one integrated smart energy system which benefits all stakeholders, from energy companies to consumers.
Opening the evening’s gala ceremony, EI President Steve Holliday FREng FEI said: “The EI Awards are a celebration of the very best our industry has to offer to society, here in the UK and around the world.
“The ‘ask’ of our profession – meeting both emissions reduction and energy demand – can only realistically be ‘answered’ if we draw on all of the talents society has to offer. We need all of the brains, regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability and orientation. Progress opening up our sector is glacial. Society is watching us, scrutinising and demanding change - and I’m glad to say these awards are a part of the answer. They recognise and encourage diversity, ambition and innovation in our industry.”
