DNV GL, GTT, Hyundai Heavy Industries and GasLog won the prestigious CWC LNG Technological Innovation Award 2015 for the LNGreen joint industry project, which has developed a state-of-the-art next-generation LNG carrier. The award was handed over at the CWC Sixteenth World LNG Summit & Awards Gala Dinner in Rome.
The jury said: “One of the key issues for successful project development is to minimize costs across the value chain by achieving collaboration between partners, increased efficiency and carbon reduction. The LNGreen project embodies all of these values.”
DNV GL’s business director for gas carriers, Johan-Petter Tutturen, was on hand to accept the award: “This is a tremendous acknowledgment of the work carried out by the business consortium. Hard work and long hours has paid off and I am proud to have such committed and competent people around me,” he said.
The LNGreen joint industry project sets out to develop tomorrow’s LNG carrier today, by using the latest technology within the bounds of existing shipbuilding methods. The vessel concept has a significantly improved environmental footprint, a higher level of energy efficiency, as well as an improved boil-off rate and cargo capacity. The vessel design is approximately eight per cent more energy efficient and has increased its cargo volume capacity by five per cent.
Total efficiency was determined through an integrated systems approach, using DNV GL COSSMOS to assess the machinery systems under realistic operating conditions based on data provided by GasLog. HHI and DNV GL carried out the hydrodynamic performance evaluation by comparing CFD simulations. Cargo containment optimization was investigated by GTT and HHI.
