Results from the PERFECt ship project

Piston Engine Room Free Efficient Container Ship

The consortium of the PERFECt ship project (Piston Engine Room Free Efficient Container Ship) presented the results of the project in December within a workshop at MARINTEC fair at the New International Expo Center in Shanghai. Download the presentations now.

In the workshop, DNV GL provided an overview about the project and representatives of the project partners ABB, GTT, Caterpillar Solar Turbines and OMT presented their specific project contributions. It became obvious that the combined gas turbine and steam turbine integrated electric drive system (COGES) proposed for the 20000 TEU class container ship of the PERFECt Ship project is competitive compared to oil or LNG fueled ships with piston engines.

The concept is also applicable to other ships with a power of 30 MW and above. Specially cruise ships with electrical drive can benefit from the PERFECt ship concept which combines high efficient gas turbines with a state of the art steam turbine cycle.  It was accentuated that the system proposed is a high end state of the art COGES system using of the shelf technology. For that reason the PERFECt Ship can be ordered today without the need of additional technology development.
