This vessel was designed and built with enhanced energy efficiency features. It is one of the world’s first vessels to have the most energy efficient 4-stroke diesel engine, 6 pcs of Wärtsilä’s 31DF multi-fuel engines, that can be run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The azimuth rudder-propeller system, provided by ABB (Azipod), makes manoeuvring easier and faster – which works with the optimal hull shape to reduce water resistance during operation by about 8 per cent compared to traditional shaft line vessels.
VIKING GLORY has been equipped with an energy recovery system from Climeon that converts waste heat from the engines into electricity – producing as much as 40 per cent of the electricity needed for the ship’s passenger functions. This vessel is also a forerunner when it comes to taking advantage of the waste cold from LNG, which is then used in cooling systems and cold rooms.
The lights in empty cabins go out and the air conditioning and heat are turned off automatically. The dynamic control system is directly connected to the booking system. In addition, an automatic ventilation system provides measurements of CO2 in public areas to optimize air flow in public spaces.
