As an underlying technology for Business Intelligence Data Warehousing is indispensable in the modern IT discipline. This five day masterclass offers you the possibility to gain a thorough understanding of the development and implementation of data warehouses.

Programme
Data Warehouse Essentials(day 1)
On this first day we will introduce the typical aspects of data warehousing in the context of business and IT: What is the added value of a data warehouse? Which approach to take? What are the technical possibilities?

Architecture & Governance (day 2)
During the second day we will discuss the role of the various components of data warehousing and how they fit together. Special attention goes to the Data Warehouse guru's Inmon & Kimball. Also we will investigate issues that affect architecture and governance.

Data Warehouse Modeling (day 3)
Dimensional modeling with star or snowflake schemes. We examine the differences between relational and normalised modeling.


ETL, meta data, data management and data quality (day 4)
You will learn how the ETL process can be organised to transform raw data from the source systems into the data marts or data warehouses. Much attention will be given to closely related subjects such as meta data, data management and data quality.

Data Warehouse implementation and management of applications (day 5)
On the last day of the masterclass we will discuss testing, implementation and management (functional and technical/infrastructural) of data warehousing and connecting applications. Also we will look at the underlying technology. Finally we will talk about the various trends that have or will have an impact on data warehousing.


Learning objectives
  1. Knowing how to perform an information analysis specifically for a data warehouse in such a way that the design for a data warehouse meets the wishes and demands of the end users.
  2. Ability to make architecture and infrastructure choices to be able to implement the data warehouse.
  3. Insight and practical experience with ETL- and data modeling processes.
  4. Insight into the role of quality in all the steps of the data warehouse process.
  5. You will master all the major principles of data warehouse project management.
