This SEI-authorized course introduces participants to the Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) fundamental concepts and model application for process improvement, providing a solid foundation for future process improvement. Both Staged and Continuous Representations are presented. The course is based on CMMI version 1.2 (published August 2006).

Programme

  • Introduction
  • Model-based process improvement
  • Overview of CMMI components
  • Structure of the continuous and staged representations
  • Institutionalization
  • Process areas of CMMI models
  • Next steps

Learning goals
This three-day course introduces the fundamental concepts of the Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI®). CMMI models are tools that help organisations improve their ability to develop and maintain quality products and services. CMMI models are an integration of best practices from proven discipline-specific process improvement models, including the CMM® for Software, EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Development CMM. The course is composed of lectures and class exercises with ample opportunity for participant questions and discussions. After attending the course, participants will be able to describe the components of CMMI models and their relationships, discuss the process areas in CMMI models, and be able to locate relevant information in the model.

Target audience
The course is suitable for systems and software engineering managers and practitioners, appraisal team members and process group (e.g., SEPG, EPG) members.

Course material
Participants will receive “CMMI: Guidelines for Process Integration and Product Improvement” and a course binder with copies of the course slides.

Certificate
Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for participation on an appraisal team, Intermediate Concepts of CMMI, SCAMPISM Lead Appraiser Training, and CMMI Instructor training. Successful completion requires active participation and full and uninterrupted attendance by the student throughout all three days. A Certificate of Completion, Continuing Education Credits (CEUs), and registration with the SEI, will result from successful course completion.
