This 8 day masterclass teaches the important aspects of IT architecture and infrastructure, and the service management organisation.

Programme
Day 1 - Introduction
Introduction to the programme of the masterclass. We will explain our expectations as to the individual case to which each participant will be assigned during the masterclass. We will introduce the concepts of architecture and consider questions such as: what is architecture? what are the relationships between the business, information and infrastructure? what architecture methods exist? and, what is the role of an architect?

Day 2 - The tools of an architect
An overview of the different architecture frameworks and the way architectural processes are embedded in an organisation. We illustrate this with a real life example coming from a large IT service organisation. Also, we will spend some time on the financial aspects regarding IT and the influence of the architecture on this topic.

Day 3 - IT Service management
We discuss and examine the IT service and its concepts from the viewpoint of infrastructure. The essence of this day is to gain a birds eye view and insight into the consequences of making choices within the context of architecture. Also, service management is subdivided in processes in the field of business processes (BiSL), application management (ASL) and technical service management (ITIL). We will practice with the Assessment Method, as part of the IT Service CMM concept.

Day 4 - Networking
Modern networks support a variety of applications. Every application has its own characteristics, influencing the design and management of a network. As an architect you will have to take all this into account. When selecting computer systems we have to make choices from a number of possible technologies. We study the theoretical background in combination with practical exercises and the individual case. As in day 2, we illustrate this with a real life example coming from a large government organisation.

Day 5 - Platforms, Storage and Middleware
We consider operating systems, storage solutions and middleware (databases, message queuing and services). We will look at them individually and in relation to each other, in order to get a good understanding of the impact of choices on non-functional requirements.

Day 6 - Common Services
Common Services that exist within an ICT infrastructure are discussed, especially accounting and audit and security. Discussions will focus on specific questions like: what problems do we encounter when making choices or implementing these common services?

Day 7 - Infrastructure Management Support
The infrastructure management support environment manages the status of the IT-infrastructure and is important for service continuity. We consider questions such as: how can signals from the multi-vendor infrastructure generate an incident registration or an SMS text message as a basis for action?,how does one organise pro-active service management? what role does event correlation play?'

Day 8 - Wrap up
A review and consolidation of all the subjects of this Masterclass. The participants will present and discuss the results of the work in the individual cases.

Target Audience
This Masterclass is aimed at IT Architects and solution architects wishing to deepen their knowledge about infrastructure and service management, but also for technical infrastructure specialists and senior service managers wishing to broaden their knowledge about the architectural environment.

Prerequisites
No specific prerequisites.
