COURSE: Nauticus Machinery Torsional Vibration

The course covers DNV's theoretical and practical experience with steady state torsional vibrations in marine propulsion systems and relates this to good practice for carrying out calculations utilising the Nauticus Machinery Torsional Vibration tool. Basic theory will be taught as well as giving an insight into new technology gained by DNV through several research projects and troubleshooting projects.

The course will include hands-on training with relevant examples such as creating the mass elastic model, acceptance criteria, load cases, calculation and reporting. Different types of propulsion systems such as electric, gas turbine and diesel engine and geared systems are covered. Transient vibrations will to some extent be covered in the presentations, but not in the software.

The course is suitable for new users of Nauticus Machinery, old users of PILOT NV5235 application or any other specialised torsional vibration application.

Alternatives:
Normally we tailor-make the training based on the type of propulsion system that is manufactured by the client. Most yards in China produce "direct coupled" systems, while other yards in Korea and Europe produce more complex "geared" systems. This will influence the course length and scope of the presentations.

Prerequisite:
Basic kowledge about vibration calculations, excitation sources, component behaviour and onboard verification methods is required.
