Earlier this year, the Institute of Engineering & Ocean Technology (IEOT), Mumbai, the technical services wing of india's largest corporation, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), has placed an order on DNV Software for upgrading and expanding their existing suite of Sesam software.

Established with the objective of attaining self-sufficiency in the hydrocarbon sector, ONGC was the first indian company to venture into offshore E&P operations – way back in the 1970s.
Fortune 500
Today, ONGC is a Fortune Global 500 company and india’s most valuable publicsector corporation that contributes to nearly 80% of the country’s oil and gas production. Known for its pioneering efforts and indigenous development of competencies and technologies, ONGC has been proactive in adopting global best practices and the latest technologies and tools. By establishing IEOT in 1983 in Mumbai, ONGC sought to institutionalise the processes that encompass the transfer of technologies.
Improved productivity
Over the years, IEOT has developed expertise in the fields of Concept Evaluation & Risk Analysis, Geo-technical Engineering, Structural Engineering and Materials & Corrosion Engineering. When the structural engineers of IEOT began using Sesam in the 1980s, they became one of the early users of the software in India. The group was quick to appreciate the benefits of upgrading the software and adding a few newer modules. IEOT is keen to make best use of the advanced features, integrated design development, and the efficiency and productivity that the latest versions of Sesam are able to offer.
Sharing best practices
As a leading provider of software for managing risk within the oil and gas, offshore, petrochemical, refineries and maritime industries, dNv software is focused globally on delivering integrated services to our clients across the life-cycles of their assets and by sharing best practices. One of the key challenges in this case was the client’s insistence on not losing the work done using older versions of Sesam and converting all the existing models and data into the newer versions. by working closely with the business development and Product development groups in DNV Software, the local marketing and sales personnel were able to successfully address this and other concerns. looking back, this particular breakthrough with ONGC has emerged as a good example of how different groups and individuals can work together to achieve success.
Building on its presence in Mumbai and the value that it can bring in by working closely with the rest of DNV, the Indian branch of DNV Software is committed to efficient delivery of support services and future upgrades to ONGC in the years to come.
