Oslo, Norway – 31 May–1 June
More than 70 customers attended the software conference at Høvik (Oslo). This year’s conference was organised in separate sessions and workshops covering the latest news in our four brands Brix, Nauticus, Sesam and Safeti.
The keynote from Elling Rishoff, Managing Director DNV Software, outlined the our strategy and our latest innovation in product development as a ‘gift’ to our customers. He also described our branding architecture as the new delivery model for DNV Software. This was followed by parallel presentations of the latest developments and news within our Sesam, Nauticus and Safeti product suite.
Terje Brevik from Statoil and Terje Nymoen from Aker Kvaerner presented project execution and design of the Gjøa semisubmersible platform, where Knowledge Based Engineering was essential. Iain Light from DNV Energy held an inspiring presentation on Managing Risk.
In the Nauticus track, Øyvind Kamsvåg from Ulstein Design presented the innovation and realisation of the new X-Bow offshore vessel design. In the Sesam track, Kåre Syvertsen from Sevan Marine covered the cylindrical FPSO. Marco Calza and Fabio Parmigiani from Technomare presented their use of Sesam. In the Safeti track, Lars Petter Gundersen from DNV Energy presented their use of Phast for Risk Assessment of Melkøya in North Norway.

In the evening of the first day, the traditional boat trip on the Oslo fjord was arranged with the old Christiania sail ship where a tasteful fish dinner was served aboard.

The workshops on the second day gave users more in-depth knowledge and understanding of our latest roduct innovations within design of process plants and marine and offshore structures. They addressed the following subjects:

  • Financial Risk Analysis – using Phast for managing financial risks
  • Phast upgrades – new features and extensions in v6.53 and v6.6
  • Modelling and analysis of floating offshore structures using GeniE
  • HydroD for hydrostatics and hydrodynamics of offshore floating units
  • Improving productivity by using Brix Explorer
  • GeniE for strength assessment of ship structures

We received very positive feedback from the participants, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers and lecturers who participated and made the conference such a success.

Busan, Korea – 18 June
The software conference in Busan also managed to attract more than 70 customers. For the first time in Korea all the DNV Software brands were covered: Brix, Nauticus, Sesam and Safeti. DNV Software’s Global Sales & Marketing Director Ketil Aamnes started with the keynote, outlining the our strategy and branding architecture. The new DNV Software video was shown in Korea for the first time. Safeti, Nauticus and Sesam were covered in detail in three parallel sessions. Several key persons from the DNV Software head office assisted the regional office in Korea with technical presentations. Brix Foundation, the DNV Software solution for Knowledge Management and Best Engineering Practice, was presented in a common session at the end of the conference program. The conference lunch was served at the beautiful meeting venue for the 2005 APEC meeting. APEC 2005 hosted the presidents of USA and Russia, in addition to all the other major leaders from the countries on the Pacific Rim.

Houston – 17 October – Sesam track
The offshore community in and around Houston is busier than ever, and still key engineers from most of our Sesam users invested time in participating at the software conference. In addition, companies interested in Sesam joined us at the event, which brought in more than 30 participants. We thank them for spending their valuable time with us, once again. We do our best to make sure that our client’s investment in Sesam is the right decision for getting the job done now and for the future. The news we presented for GeniE and HydroD underlines our philosophy – integration of tasks and data is important for increased productivity and quality.

One of the main mottos of Sesam is ‘keep it simple’. A consequence of this is that all functionality developed should have an intuitive and easy user interface. Ole Jan Nekstad, Product Manager Sesam, enthusiastically demonstrated the major new features in GeniE (code checking of beams and advanced meshing capabilities).
The new HydroD stability functionality was presented by Torgeir Vada, Manager Stress Assessment, with in-depth knowledge. We have developed a lot of functionality in recent years, and we gave GeniE and HydroD priority at the conference. During and after the presentations, we welcomed questions and comments. The
suggestions were noted, and we have already started to look into the product plans to see how we can incorporate them. We hope the participants after the seminar have returned to their daily work with some heavier Sesam ballast, and we hope to see you all again next year!

Paris, Mexico City and Houston – October 2007 – Safeti track
Our Safeti Product Marketing team were back ‘on the road,’ hosting software conferences in a number of locations. Mainly focusing on the Safeti product line, these conferences were held this October in Paris, Mexico and Houston, all key locations for the Safeti product suite user community. New this year was the conference in south Africa this Spring. We were extremely pleased with the level of attendance and enthusiasm of the delegates at these conferences, where the aggregate attendance topped 100. DNV Software staff held resentations on a wide range of issues relating to the Safeti product suite. Topics covered included the recently released Phast 6.53 and Leak 3.2 applications, plans for Phast 6.6 and the next generation architecture – the Safeti Risk Framework, the practical application of the Phast Financial extensions for Financial Risk and Consequence Analysis, ongoing enhancements to our mathematical modelling capabilities and the use of Phast spreadsheet import facility to model the risks posed by long pipelines. Two key objectives of the conference were to demonstrate the new features available in Phast 6.53, particularly the Multi-Component modelling extension, spreadsheet export and new options for toxic averaging time selection, and the improvements made in the latest version of the Leak application, as well as to get feedback on prioritising developments for Phast 6.6 and 7.0. At the Houston meeting two user presentations were given; one by Kay Koslan Dow Chemical on ‘Alternative Methods for Dispersion Modelling of Relief Devices’ and one from Fred Allevato from DNV Energy on ‘Phast droplet size validation’. As usual, these user presentations were very well received, and we would like to thank everyone for their contributions to a successful meeting. We now look forward to presenting the Safeti suite of software products at the DNV Software Conference in Shanghai 8–9 November.
