The first-ever Safeti public training in China was held at the DNV Academy in Shanghai, 2-5 April.
It was organised due to the demand of increasing Safeti marketing, following up the Risk Management Conference of 2006. The course was directed at new users, in addition to more experienced users who had not yet attended a formal training course. Safeti is by far the most comprehensive quantitative tool available for assessing process plant risks. A total of 14 people participated in the training.

The companies represented were:
- JiangSu University of Science and Technology
- China Academy of Safety Science and Technology
- Research Institute of Natural Gas Technology
- Waterborne Transportation Institute
- China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Corporation
- Shengli Oilfield Technology Inspection Centre
- Daqing Oilfield Engineering
The course covered all areas of risk modelling within Safeti 6.51. The consequence modelling included discharge, dispersion, pool formation and evaporation, fires, explosions and toxic effects. The risk modelling covered the impact on human population by taking into account meteorological data, event frequencies, ignition probabilities, and location of population areas.
The participants were required to practice and apply their new knowledge of the software through extensive hands-on workshops during the course. The participants gave positive feedback on their level of understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of Safeti. On the last day of the course, all the participants received certification successfully. DNV Software will continue to organise this type of public training in China according to market demand.
