The event was hosted by Kåre Kristoffersen from DNV Technology Services in Paris and Jens Alexander Aarvik from DNV Software in Marseille. The seminar attracted full house with 35 representatives from Acergy, Doris, D2M, Saipem, Stat Marine, Safier Ingénierie, and Technip.

The objective of the seminar was to show the French operators and designers how DNV solves complicated offshore-related tasks both practically and through the use of Sesam software tools. The topics presented was the key factor for such a numerous and motivated audience who expressed their interest in such an event on a yearly basis.

The meeting was split in the following three session, each covering numerous case studies and demonstrating our software tools:

  • The Environmental Conditions and Environmental Loads
  • Global Performance Analysis of Deepwater Floating Structures
  • Fatigue Methodology of Offshore Ships

Patricia Manchec and Julie de Lamarzelle from Doris Engineering showed great interest in the topics presented.

Following discussions on some of DNV's recommended practices for designing deep floating offshore structures, Ole Jan Nekstad, DNV Software Sesam Product Manager, stated that engineers’ need an efficient tool to perform design of such structures based on the recommended practices or other design codes. Sesam has been used for design of offshore structures worldwide for forty years, since the early development of the Ekofisk field. It is thus a validated and well respected tool suited for engineering tasks.

At the seminar, examples of very efficient and user-friendly software were demonstrated, highlighting hydrodynamic (and static) analysis as well as design of risers and lines in very deep waters. The demonstrations showed examples on how many man-weeks can be saved by using concept modelling techniques employed by all the new Sesam modules. Furthermore, examples showing how more quality can be built into engineering projects by focusing Best Engineering Practices were also illustrated using, the brand new BRIX Explorer.
