HSL, an agency of the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), has been using Phast since 2001, having followed the lead of the HSE who first licensed Phast in the 1990s.

The course was the first private course of 2006, and was given by Olugbenga Ogunlana from DNV Software Global Technical Support and Colin Hickey from Global Product Management. It introduced Phast version 6.5, and the full range of consequence models available in Phast were covered during the course. In addition, attention was given to areas of the program which have been enhanced in version 6.5, including improved flammable modelling for jet fires, fireballs and explosions.

Other areas covered were improvements to the mapping functionality and the material physical properties system.
The course participants provided valuable feedback to DNV Software about the latest Phast developments, and how they would help them in their application of the software to assess practical problems.

Says Colin Hickey, Risk Product Manager for DNV Software: “It was a privilege to provide the introduction to Phast training for the staff at HSL, which is globally regarded as a centre of excellence in the study and research of consequence analysis. I saw this training as an opportunity for DNV Software to learn a great deal too.
