DNV has acquired the Norwegian software and consulting company proNavis AS. The company offers solutions for shipowners and yards regarding specifications, collaboration, and workflow in pre-contract phases of a newbuilding project.
The company proNavis was established in 2001 as an offspring from Marintek in Trondheim, Norway, and in close interaction with DNV Maritime and DNV Software. To illustrate the ownership change, the company is now named DNV proNavis AS.
DNV proNavis offers a solution for shipowners and yards which supports the process of establishing and maintaining
specifications, enabling deep, extensive and flexible collaboration within the company and with sub-contractors. DNV proNavis’ product TenderSuiteTM is a collection of software tools covering the precontract phases of the project lifecycle. These tools are designed to be adjustable to any group system or work breakdown structure. This means that new projects can be created according to the project structure in use. A strong template mechanism allows the user to maintain a library of projects.
From a classification point of view, DNV Maritime sees DNV proNavis’ services and products as a way to provide existing and new clients with valuable process support. The aim is to improve both the quality and commercial performance of early project phase activities. “Besides the business case and getting onboard five competent employees, DNV sees strategic benefits from what DNV proNavis represent,” says Per Marius Berrefjord, Head of
Strategy and Business Development.
He explains how DNV Maritime will seek to utilise both product and competence in strategic projects: “DNV Maritime aims to be involved with our clients early in the newbuilding project phase to contribute with our services and thereby to be in a good position to secure DNV class. DNV proNavis’ products and services help us do just that.”
DNV Software as global reseller
On 22 December 2005, DNV Software signed an exclusive global reseller agreement for TenderSuite.
TenderSuite is complementary to DNV Software’s existing product portfolio addressing the early project phase. TenderSuite will be brought to the market through DNV Software’s international sales team, both as a stand-alone solution and an integrated module within DNV Software’s workflow framework. DNV Software’s motivation is mostly related to strengthen its early phase product portfolio. Elling Rishoff, Managing Director DNV Software, elaborates: “We see great potential in the TenderSuite software as a stand-alone product, and even more as a valuable addition to the other products DNV Software offers addressing the early project phase.
Says DNV proNavis Managing Director, Arnulf Hagen: “We have good experience from working with DNV on several projects. Now, with DNV as a strategic owner, this joint offering will be even stronger. Further, through DNV’s global reach, more customers will get easier access to this software.”
