PEMEX, the Mexican state-owned oil company, produces approximately 3.3 MB/d of crude oil, with nearly 80 per cent being produced in the marine region.

PEMEX has contracted a comprehensive risk analysis project with UAM to analyse onshore and offshore risk and include risk-based inspection for offshore installations. Following the project, UAM will transfer the licences to PEMEX for integration into the regular process safety activity.

DNV Software’s risk products have long been a standard in PEMEX. With its initial investment in Phast in the early 1990s, usage has spread from the corporate safety department into the Refining, Exploration and Production, Petrochemical, and Gas and Basic Petrochemical divisions.

Says Mike Johnson, DNV Software Sales Manager for North America: “PEMEX has a strong commitment to process safety, and has always been a leader in contributing to the continuous improvement of the risk products.” Included in the contract were multiple licences of Safeti, Orbit Onshore and Offshore, Leak and DNV Pro, as well as extensive user training. “The most exciting part of this contract is the acceptance of the first licences of Orbit Onshore and Offshore. With successful implementation of this project, we can help PEMEX manage inspections and maintenance in the same way as their traditional process safety activities,” says Mike Johnson.

Since a significant part of the project includes software and application training, Eydstein Egholm from DNV Technology Services in Houston, and Jorge Ortiz, DNV Software representative in Mexico, will work closely to provide the mix of services.
