Unique+support+for+the+new+Common+Structural+Rules

The new release of Nauticus Hull to customers on 9 January 2006 represents an important milestone for DNV and DNV Software. Only three weeks after adoption by the IACS Council and in good time before the Common Structural Rules (CSR) are published, DNV Software provides unique support for the new rules.

Given the complexity of the task and a rather short time window of implementation, we are indeed proud to be able to provide production-ready software for the new rules on time. Feedback from the market is rewarding and clearly states that Nauticus Hull is again ‘Best in Class’ and by far the best provider of software solution for double-hull tankers.

Says Elling Rishoff, Managing Director of DNV Software: “Nauticus Hull’s modern software platform enables us to deliver front-end software for the new tanker rules way before our competitors. We will also continue to develop it to ensure that support for the new bulker rules becomes a permanent part of Nauticus Hull when the rules come into force in April 2006.”

The making of the new software has been a successful team work. The January 2006 release of Nauticus Hull is the result of hard and dedicated work by DNV Software’s system developers and DNV’s rule experts. The task would have been hard to complete without the strong technology basis found in our existing Nauticus solutions and without DNV Software’s commitment and dedication as a professional software house.

Regular contact with end users in the shipyards and design offices has been a very important contribution to development. The on training given to representatives of Chinese shipbuilding is one among several examples of good communication with the industry. Training and test installations have previously been carried out at yards in Korea and Japan and valuable input from our customers has contributed in the shaping of this latest release of Nauticus Hull.

Says Wilhelm Magelssen, the head of DNV Maritime’s business and marketing department: “For the past two years, we have distributed an updated version to the yards every second month to accommodate their feedback and development directions. We have also held frequent workshops with the yards at their premises or in DNV’s head office at Høvik, Norway. For example, engineers from Daewoo spent two months here earlier this year.”

DNV is committed to even further development and enhancements of Nauticus Hull to assure advanced and even better tools for design and verification, and tools that fully support Common Structural Rules for both Tankers and Bulk Carriers.
