Best+ship+operation+practice

In line with its corporate ‘Best Practice’ objective, DNV Software has made a new move to increase the support of ship operators’ hull maintenance activities. By combining the Brix framework with Hull Life Cycle Manager, DNV Software can now offer an improved hull maintenance support system.

This system helps operators follow a defined maintenance strategy where they can prepare and complete hull inspections and generate comprehensive repair specifications with the right information, when it becomes available.

In addition to having well-defined inspection routines for hull structures, it is important to handle findings and nonconformities at appropriate intervals. The repair management module in Hull Life Cycle Manager is instrumental when handling repair specifications and follow-up. With a complete inspection history for all areas onboard all ships, it is possible to have a control system that contains operational and forecasting information. This can be used to evaluate operational issues such as estimation of future costs and man-hours, and revision of current strategies. The necessity of having a flexible and easy-to-use repair management system is essential when predicting potential delays and budget overruns.

It is essential for superintendents to have a central workbench for compiling a complete repair specification. This involves initiating project properties such as the project title and budget before defining the repair specification content. This content typically includes non-conformities from Hull Life Cycle Manager, Conditions of Class and current repair activities from the planned maintenance system. Superintendents can include other relevant sources of information such as the coating specification, extracted from the optional class notation Nauticus Operation. This means that superintendents can now control and manage all their repair specification material from one application work process.

By utilising the functionality available in Brix, it is also possible to extend the scope of Hull Life Cycle Manager to the tendering process. This makes it possible to integrate people, activities and other relevant software applications into one system for the first time. A clear benefit from this approach is to ensure that users always have access to the most up-to-date and correct information.

DNV Software aims to improve the maintenance and operation of ships by offering you better information with better tools which allow a continuous exchange of facts and knowledge.
