The Korea Shipbuilders’ Association – KOSHIPA – stated a preference for DNV’s Nauticus Hull software in its review of the IACS common structural rules now being developed for tankers. First released in March, the software has been updated to support the second draft of the common structural rules.
The comments from the Korea Shipbuilders’ Association is a clear indication that DNV is taking the lead in providing
software in support of the current IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) common structural rules effort.
Says Elling Rishoff, Managing Director of DNV Software: “To DNV this is a great encouragement and the best motivation for further software development and implementation. The schedule for rules review is indeed tight and puts great demand on the yard’s design offices for review and on DNV to provide the software tools that are needed. Our efforts will therefore be concentrated on delivering effective software with high quality, on time.”

DNV Software will continue the development to ensure that support for the new rules becomes a permanent part of
Nauticus Hull in good time before the rules are official and enter into force. Nauticus Hull software supporting the second draft CSR was issued in its first version in March 2005. Several updates have been patched to internal and external users since then, and a new complete and improved version for CSR is now available for download by Nauticus Hull customers.
Based on feedback from the yards, DNV Software and DNV rule experts have co-operated closely to incorporate a comprehensive set of software enhancements. Emphasis has been put on quality issues and providing software that can effectively support the final stages of the rule hearing process. An extensive comparison study has been performed by ABS, DNV and LR to ensure consistency and rectify any discrepancies in the software. Work on the software will continue until the rules are official and enter into force with respect to functionality, stability and performance.
During the coming months we hope for a continued fruitful co-operation with the industry. As part of this effort DNV
has established a support team with experts on the new rules and the software supporting them.
