Special features available in the most recent release of GeniE

Many engineers have used GeniE to design topside structures. The feedback has been positive and constructive, and our users saw further potential for speeding up the process and simplifying their work. The most recent release of GeniE, version 3.2, includes many of these improvements. Some of the new and important features for topside design are listed here; for a full update please refer to Sesam support or view the help included with the installation.

Fig. 1 and 2: When modelling in GeniE you normally do not model all details of the structure. For example, you may exclude modelling the weld, secondary support structure and coating. This means that you are not able to capture the mass of the structure accurately unless you account for these additional components by manually manipulating the mass, densities, plate thickness or section area.

This has now been automated in GeniE. You simply specify the target mass for a particular part of the structure and the mass automatically changes. Fig. 1 shows how easy it is to change the mass while Fig. 2 depicts the new mass and moment of inertia – computing moment of inertia is also a new feature.

Fig. 3 and 4: For plated topsides, the new version contains features for mesh locking and for performing analysis (or creating the mesh only) for sub-sets of the total model.

Fig. 4 shows an example of mesh locking. A model where default meshing (i.e. no mesh rules have been specified) has been used on the frame to the left. The frame at the right end has been modified by adding feature edges and the mesh layout has been locked and copied when establishing the middle frame. This means that you will get the same mesh for the two frames on the right hand side.

Fig. 5 and 6: You may concentrate on a sub-set only, either to create a superelement model for use in an assembly or performing a local analysis inside GeniE. In this case the middle frame has been selected, boundary conditions have been added and the mesh density is refined. In addition to these features, you can also create a report of the model intended for viewing in Microsoft® Word. The report is based on a standard template and all graphic files of type *.gif are automatically scaled and inserted into the report.
