Fincantieri
Fincantieri is one of the largest and most diversified shipbuilding groups in the world. The company designs, builds and markets cruise ships, all kind of ferries, surface combatants, auxiliary ships and submarines, exploiting the latest design and construction technologies to obtain the best quality and performance level. Fincantieri has recently purchased the Torsional Vibration, Shaft Alignment and Shaft Fatigue modules from DNV Software’s Nauticus Machinery Calculations suite.

Says Giacomo Schiaffino of Fincantieri, “We have always designed shaftlines using top quality standards and the best tools available in the market. We selected DNV Software based on its ability to create a single model to perform both basic and detail design activities. Due to the range of vessel size and type designed, well proven and sophisticated alignment and vibration (axial, torsional and lateral) calculation tools are necessary to lead the design to a safer final result.

“Moreover, the clear and user-friendly interface, that allows fast modelling and easy checking, and the ability to have upto-date versions, including tools suggested by users, means that this package significantly reduces the time taken for shafting design activities.”

Aker Finnyards Turku
Aker Finnyards Turku is one of Finland’s largest shipyards. Freedom of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship is under construction, and the yard has chosen DNV Software’s Shaft Alignment tool to help in this process. This is the second licence Aker Finnyards has purchased, the first bought by Aker Finnyards in Helsinki.

Says Pertti Luikangas in the Turku yard: “The new Shaft Alignment software gives much better visualisation and greater understanding of this complex subject.”
