Since the beginning of 2005 and as part of our continuous drive for improved customer satisfaction and delivering products to best meet your business needs, we have created a new global section for product management with the key objective of ensuring market- and customer-focused product development.
During DNV Software’s reorganisation at the end of 2004, a completely restructured Global Sales and Marketing department was created. Within this new department, a global process for Product Management was formed to integrate the product management groups and processes previously working independently within each of the Nauticus, Sesam and Risk Management product centres. The Global Product Management group is responsible for ensuring that all product development resources are utilised effectively and within a coordinated and consolidated strategy to best meet market needs.
Global Product Manager Nic Cavanagh is responsible for defining and managing this process and creating a consolidated Product Vision, with his team of experienced Product Managers taking direct responsibility for each product line, categorised as Marine, Risk and Sesam. Marine product management is headed by Bård Rasmussen, previously head of Marine Solutions in DNV Software and working closely with Product Manager Niklas Lindwall. Sesam product management remains the responsibility of Ole Jan Nekstad, long-time product manager for the Sesam software suite, whilst Product Managers for Risk are Siobhan Scott, previously Phast and Safeti product manager, and Jean Kao who previously had responsibility for Neptune product management.

With combined industry experience of more than 100 years, the product management team act as the interface between regional sales, customers and the market, and product development. Spending much of our time talking to customers, both directly and through the regional organisation, we take input from all these sources in creating detailed product visions upon which new product developments and updates are based. Global Product Management is the ‘voice of the market’ in DNV Software products.
Says Dr Nic Cavanagh, “By aligning product management for all product lines with a single process, DNV Software’s customers will benefit from better use of generic technology across all product development. “Acting as the interface between the market, the regional organisation and the product development group, Global Product Management will ensure that customers’ needs are addressed in an integrated strategy across all business areas. In addition, our customers will benefit from better reuse of existing technology in all products and much improved economies of scale.”
A key objective of Global Product Management for 2005 is to ensure that all our customers can benefit from DNV Software’s Brix technology platform. Brix is DNV Software’s common framework, developed over many years and now, in its second generation, based on Microsoft .NET technology. Our integrated product vision for 2005 and 2006 ensures that many of our products will take advantage of these capabilities in the near future.
