“Two Brix Workflow Manager projects constitute a major breakthrough for solution sales in the region. They will be important reference projects when expanding the Brix technology to other shipyards,” says DNV Software Regional Manager for Korea and Japan Chul Sang Lee.

DNV Software and DSME carried out a pilot project earlier this year, with the objective to explore the potential of Brix Workflow Manager and Best Engineering Practice in the DSME organisation. After the successful completion of the pilot project in June 2005, DSME decided to implement Brix Workflow Manager in its organisation. Originally, the system was intended to cover the marketing design work processes, but DSME chose to expand the solution to also cover the activities of basic structural design and vibration-free design and analysis. About 200 users access the final solution developed by DNV Software. To accommodate this, DSME has acquired a site license for Brix Workflow Manager. Given a successful implementation of the three work processes, the solution will again be expanded to cover the work processes for hull form basic design, machinery outfitting design and structural research and development during 2006.
DSME knows DNV Software as a competent software supplier and believes that our Brix technology can offer DSME a flexible environment for integrating its existing in-house applications. In this way, in-house integration costs at DSME are largely reduced, and its engineers can continue to use their daily applications as they are used to.
Signing Brix Workflow agreement with DSEC
The second project is with DSEC, where DNV Software has agreed to conduct a pilot project on implementing a Best Engineering Practice system supporting the DSEC design processes. The objective of the project is to implement Best Engineering Practice covering the design program planning and status monitoring.
A typical design program at DSEC consists of 300–400 drawings developed during the basic design and functional design activities, involving more than 30 engineers. An important part of the system capabilities will be to determine the critical path and duration from the activity network including constraints. The system will also cover data management for the engineering projects (communications, specifications etc.).
DNV Software will develop both systems utilising Workflow Manager and other Brix core functionalities.
