An engineering group of 12 from CENPES, the Research Centre of PETROBRAS, has taken a five-day Sesam course in Rio de Janeiro, including two participants from DNV Rio’s Offshore Service Centre.
The course was split in two parts: three days for Basic FEM (Patran-Pre, Presel, Sestra, Xtract and Submod) and two days for Code Checking & Fatigue (Framework, Stofat and Platework). This was the second training of this kind in Brazil for Petrobras. The first one took place in 2003, but it did not include the Code Check section. Apparently the course met the client’s expectations; to quote Paulo Maurício, Manager Offshore Structures in Petrobras: “The training course was very effective; this will help Petrobras in their current and upcoming platform projects. There may be a need for more training in the future.”
