Sesam+training+at+NTNU

DNV Software recently performed two Sesam training sessions and workshops at the Institute for Marine Technique, NTNU in Trondheim with a total of 34 students participating. The objective for the training was to understand the behaviour of physics using a commercial software system.

The first session concentrated on hydrodynamics and the effects of varying certain parameters like characteristic panel model, location of the floater’s centre of gravity and critical damping. Based on pre-defined panel models (SemiSubmersible), the students used HydroD, Wadam, Postresp and Xtract. One of the main tasks were to derive accelerations for use in a subsequent structural analysis of the topside derrick.

The second session focused on structural design analysis of the derrick. The students modelled the structure from scratch and applied loads and accelerations in GeniE, performed structural analysis in Sestra and code checking in Framework before re-designing the original structural layout to meet the requirements of code checking standards.
