The SCHOTTEL group is an innovative group of companies specialising in the development, design, production and marketing of azimuthing propulsion and manoeuvring systems, as well as complete propulsion systems with power ratings of up to 30 MW for vessels of all sizes and types.

Main products are rudder propellers, twin-propellers, pod drives, pump jets, thrusters and controllable pitch propeller plants. The headquarters of the group is located in Spay, Germany near Koblenz. SCHOTTEL is a global company with subsidiaries and agencies worldwide. The company was looking for a suitable shaft calculation package for a long period and decided finally for the program ‘NAUTICUS Shaft Alignment, extended’ in the beginning of 2005.

SCHOTTEL gave the following reasons for selecting Nauticus Shaft Alignment:

  1. The three traditional calculations of shaft alignment, axial and whirling vibration are integrated in one software
    module, which makes it possible to create one model for all three calculations.
  2. The software is issued by an independent and world-wide acknowledged company. Therefore we do not expect any further need of explanation about the software regarding the approval of shaft alignment and shaft vibration results independent from the fact which classification society is responsible for the particular approval process.
  3. We expect the software will be updated regularly.
  4. Generating of models can be done quite fast in an easy dialog. The program is mainly self-explanatory and
    flexible, i.e. shaft model updates as well as other versions may be created very easily from existing models.
