Islington Council in London recently invited nominations for its Green Travel Commuter Awards from all businesses based in the borough or residents living within it. These awards form part of the council’s travel awareness campaign, which aims to promote sustainable travel by increasing the amount of walking and cycling to and from work.

The Green Travel Commuter Awards included the Golden Boot, for the person who walked the longest distance between home and work on a daily basis, and the Golden Cycle, for the person who cycled the longest distance between home and work on a daily basis.
The Golden Boot award – a hiking weekend break for two – was won by Jean Kao, working for DNV Software at its London Bridge office. This is a round-trip of almost ten kilometres which she makes on foot almost every day.
Jean says “I am proud to represent DNV Software in accepting this award. It is important as employees of DNV that we strive to live up to our mission of ‘Safeguarding Life, Property, and the Environment’ and DNV is very supportive in this effort.”
Councillor Fox, Executive member for Sustainability and Deputy Leader for the council, presented the prizes in an awards ceremony held at Islington Town Hall on Thursday, 24 February.
