When asked what DNV Software can do to increase our business in China the answer is almost always: “Deliver a Chinese user interface!” In order to meet this requirement and to further test out the potential, DNV Software has developed a Chinese Edition of the 3D Beam program which will be launched in May 2005.
“3D Beam is one of DNV Software’s bestselling products and by translating the user interface we aim to support the growing demand from the Chinese market. If this proves to be a success, we will also consider translating some of our other tools. To handle Mandarin, 3D Beam has been rewritten to support Unicode, which allows for further internationalisation of the user interface,” says Niklas Lindwall, Project Responsible for the 3D Beam Chinese Edition.
“We’re aiming at delivering a free trial version of the program to as many of China’s 2,000 shipyards as possible. 3D Beam is a general beam analysis program, targeted at the shipbuilding industry, and with intuitive user interface. It uses the international language of naval architects – now with a Chinese translation. Hence, we expect it to become a popular tool among Chinese shipbuilding engineers,” says Øystein Goksøyr, DNV Software Regional Manager Greater China.

“Our support desk in Shanghai is ready to support the users when we distribute the program in mid-May,” says Goksøyr. “Further we have translated the user guide and marketing material into Mandarin in order to ensure an effective rollout.”

3D Beam – the popular beam element analysis program The program was developed for analysis of ship structures and has become a popular tool within the shipbuilding market. The customer feedback is that Nauticus 3D Beam is a very user-friendly tool that can be used to model any type of beam structures. Due to this fact, there has been an increasing interest in the program in other engineering disciplines such as offshore and civil engineering. Nauticus 3D Beam is offered as a stand alone product and as an extension to the Nauticus Rule Check packages. The program is now modified to support multiple languages. |
