Bridging CAD, strength assessment (CAE) and rule-based capacity design

GeniE is a tool for designing and analyzing offshore and maritime structures made of beams and plates. Modelling, analysis and results processing are performed in the same graphical user interface. The use of concept technology makes GeniE highly efficient for integrating stability, loading, strength assessment and CAD exchange. All data are persistent enabling the engineers to do efficient iterative re-design of a structure.

GeniE for fixed structures
The analysis – hydrodynamic as well as strength calculations – and evaluation of results are done within GeniE. GeniE is built for frequent changes in both structural and equipment layout – any modification performed on a concept level will give an automatic updated and consistent analysis model.

For fixed platforms, GeniE can perform static and dynamic linear analysis for structures subjected to wave, wind, current and the equipment layout. It is also possible to include the effects from non-linear pile/soil behaviour. Code compliance of beams may be performed according to API/AISC, API/LRFD, Norsok/Eurocode or ISO (19902). The results may be reported graphically or by using standard report layouts that can be customized (supporting MS Office). Similarly, for plated structures (stiffened as well as un-stiffened) they may be checked against codes like DNV (RP C201.1) and API(2U).

The wind and wave loads create input to fatigue assessments that can be based on a deterministic or stochastic aproach using automatic parametric SCF's according to Kuang, Lloyds and Efthymiou. The analyses may also be performed based on user defined SCF from local analysis. It is also possible to performe progressive collapse analysis considering the effect of residual strength in the structure.

To efficiently perform the various tasks within design, installation and operation of fixed platforms, GeniE uses the functionality provided by other Sesam tools as described below.

MODULES:

Linear structural analysis - Sestra

The most rapid and robust of finite-element solvers. Sestra is a general-purpose FE program for linear structural analysis.

Wave loads on slender structures - Wajac

computes hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces on fixed offshore frame structures due to wave and current, together with static or gust wind loads.

Soil and pile analysis - Splice

Soil-pile-structure interaction analysis - for design of safe and solid foundations

Superelement analysis - Presel

Presel efficiently assembles the superelements created by the Sesam preprocessors to form a complete model of a structure.

Fatigue and earthquake analysis - Framework

Framework is an interactive postprocessor for code checking, fatigue and earthquake analysis of frame models. All phases throughout the life cycle of the structures are covered: from initial design to re-qualification.

Plate analysis postprocessor - Platework

an interactive program for code checking of plane stiffened steel plate structures based on results from FE analysis

Launching and upending of jackets - Installjac

a state of the art time domain program that performs an accurate simulation of the installation process of an offshore steel-piled jacket. Both the launch and up-ending scenarios are accounted for.

Progressive collapse analysis - Usfos

Progressive collapse analysis. Protecting health, safety and the environment is paramount for designers and operators of offshore platforms, particularly when such structures are subject to extreme loads.

Probabilistic fatigue analysis - Profast

is designed for planning of cost-efficient inspection of offshore jacket structures and re-qualification of existing structures. Profast can also be used for other types of structures where fatigue crack growth is considered.
