GeniE is a tool for designing and analyzing offshore and maritime structures made of beams and plates.

Modelling, analysis and results processing are performed in the same graphical user interface. The use of concept technology makes GeniE highly efficient for integrating stability, loading, strength assessments and CAD exchange. All data are persistent enabling the engineers to do efficient iterative re-design of a structure.

GeniE for FPSO
Floating structures are normally build up of plates and stiffeners to define necessary steel to carry the loads, enough volume to give buoyancy and compartments to carry liquid or solid ballast. GeniE facilitates very efficient modelling of all these aspects including the loading of such. It will lead to cost savings in the engineering phase since any change in structural, equipment layout or compartment definition (permeability or filling) in the concept model will give an automatic updated and consistent analysis model. In other words, less re-modelling time needed when changes occur.

For floating structures, GeniE can perform static and dynamic linear analysis for structures subjected to wave, wind, current, ballast and equipment layout. The loads and accelerations from the waves and compartment content are defined by HydroD and they are automatically applied to the structure model independent of the hydrodynamic panel model.

Code compliance of beams (typically topsides, modules, flare towers, derricks) may be performed according to API/AISC, API/LRFD or Norsok/Eurocode. The results may be reported graphically or by using standard report layouts that can be customized (supporting MS Office). Similarly, for plated structures (stiffened as well as un-stiffened) they may be checked against codes like DNV(RP C201.1) and API(2U).

The wave loads create input to fatigue assessments of both beams and plates using a stochastic approach. By using the sub-modelling techniques it is very easy to perform a global fatigue analysis to scan for critical areas and make local model for detailed fatigue analysis without the need for time consuming re-modelling.

To efficiently perform the various tasks within design, installation and operation of floating structures, GeniE uses the functionality provided by other Sesam tools as described below.

MODULES:

Linear structural analysis - Sestra

The most rapid and robust of finite-element solvers. Sestra is a general-purpose FE program for linear structural analysis.

Design og welded plates and shells - Stofat

Fatigue design of welded plates and shells for wave fatigue loading. Avoid local structural failure due to repeated environmental loads.

Refined sub-modelling - Submod

Quick and easy refined analyses - take a closer look at details and local effects. Refined sub-modelling including meshing and global displacement

Superelement analysis - Presel

Presel efficiently assembles the superelements created by the Sesam preprocessors to form a complete model of a structure.

Fatigue and earthquake analysis - Framework

Framework is an interactive postprocessor for code checking, fatigue and earthquake analysis of frame models. All phases throughout the life cycle of the structures are covered: from initial design to re-qualification.

Verification of sectional forces - Cutres

Cutres is an interactive postprocessor for presenting forces and stress distribution in user-defined cross sections (cuts) through previously defined FE models.

Plate analysis postprocessor - Platework

an interactive program for code checking of plane stiffened steel plate structures based on results from FE analysis
