Cutres is an interactive postprocessor for presenting forces and stress distribution in user-defined cross sections (cuts) through previously defined FE models.

The finite element model may be a multilevel superelement model and contain shell, membrane, beam and truss elements. The positions of the sections are completely independent of superelement and basic element boundaries. An assembly of parallel sections perpendicular to the length axis (if such is relevant) of the FE model is easily defined. Single arbitrarily oriented sections may also be defined.

Main features:
Cutres’ two main features in addition to cutting the finite element model and creating section geometry are:

  • Presentation of diagrams for stress resultants (shells and membranes) and forces (beams and trusses), superimposed on the section geometry.
  • Integrate stress resultants and forces over the section to produce total axial and shear forces, plus bending and torsional moments for the section. These sectional forces and moments are presented as graphs over a set of sections. This feature is especially designed for ships and other long and narrow structures that may be viewed as simple beams. The graph will then be a force/moment graph along the beam.

Benefits

  • Integrated with the standard Sesam, Results Interface File
  • Can handle large general superelement analyses with a large number of superelements organised in a mulit-level superelement hierarchy
  • Arbitrary global cross-sections through a structure, completely independent of superelement or basic element boundaries
  • Calculate force distribution throughout the cross sections
  • Integration of force distribution in a cross section to form total axial force, shear forces, bending moments and torsional moment
  • Handle static and complex loads
  • Graphic presentation of force distribution of any cross section
  • Graphic presentation of one or more sections
  • Graphical display of force and moment variation withing an assembly
  • Diagrams for stress resultants or forces
