Today’s paperwork – a safety threat
The amount of paperwork to be carried out by the Master and his officers is approaching a limit and has to be done on top of their other normal duties. The demand for reporting is constantly growing – burden upon the bridge team is taking time and placing attention away from effective and safe operation. Additionally, incomplete, incorrect or late reporting may cause delays resulting in higher costs and off hire. Research has shown that safety at sea is being compromised because officers on merchant ships do not get enough rest periods.

DNV Navigator reduces the paper work
DNV Navigator contains information about the authorities’ requirements regarding navigation, security, ballast water, waste air pollution and associated reporting. It makes all the information available at the officers’ fingertips and produces the reports within minutes. The system automatically fills in the forms with data already in the database.

Electronic port clearance DNV Navigator includes eNOA/D reporting to the US Coast Guard as well as electronic reporting to other countries such as Singapore, Germany, New Zealand, Ecuador, CARICOM and the Panama Canal. The system will be prepared to meet any new requirements regarding electronic reporting once these come into force.

Weekly updates
A subscription to DNV Navigator includes weekly up-dates of all Pilot and Port information based corrections from Notices to Mariners. The data are transmitted to the ship by email attachment and the corrections are automatically inserted by a few mouse clicks. The size of the files is less than 300 kb.

System upgrades and updates
Four times a year the software, navigational information, new forms and additional ports are upgraded by CD. Such enhancements are all included in the annual subscription fee.
