Known for its historical place in shipping and trading from ancient times, the coastal state of Gujarat has emerged in recent years as one of the most sought after destinations for investments in oil and gas, chemical and shipbuilding industries.
On 7th September 2010, DNV Software in India successfully organised a seminar on Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) in the Hotel Surya Palace in Vadodara (known earlier as Baroda), an important industrial city in Gujarat, India. The main focus of the seminar was to show how to benefit from consequence analysis and risk assessment by using the Phast and Phast Risk software, which includes models for fluid discharge, dispersion, pool formation and evaporation, fires, explosions, toxic effects and the risk to people and assets from these potential events.
Dr. K.U. Mistry, Chairman of the State Pollution Control Board, Gujarat, was the Chief Guest at the seminar. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mistry emphasised the need to enhance the awareness of all the operators in matters of industrial safety and pollution prevention. He also welcomed the initiative displayed by DNV Software in this direction.
The day-long seminar was attended by 40 participants comprising representatives from consultanties, EPCs and operators serving Gujarat’s oil and gas and chemical industries. Many of the participants were existing users of the Phast family of products from DNV Software.
Nagmani Kumar Sinha, Sales Manager (India), DNV Software, made a presentation tracing DNV’s long involvement in risk management and development of methodologies and tools for QRA.
