CSR+Tank+FE+Analysis+and+PULS+Code+Check+in+GeniE

With the implementation of CSR Tank in GeniE, Nauticus Hull users benefit from one finite element platform covering both the DNV rules and IACS common structural rules. The PULS buckling check for plated structures is also an important enhancement for analysis of offshore structures making code checks for framed and plated structural elements available within the same analysis.

GeniE materialised from the SESAM 2000 project and is a tool for modelling and analysis of fixed and floating offshore and maritime structures. One of the most important goals was to make the design analysis process more efficient and based on the engineering terms rather than finite element terms. These goals have been achieved by introducing concept modelling and building engineering knowledge into the program.

Since the first release in 2001 focusing on topsides and jackets, GeniE has been continuously developed to cover all ranges of ships and offshore installations. With support for CSR Tank cargo hold analysis and PULS buckling check yet an important development milestone is reached. Loads and boundary conditions as defined by the rules are automatically applied in GeniE through the interface with Nauticus Hull. This also includes corrosion additions and generation of sets (groups) of the main structural elements. GeniE also offers a tool to verify that the global bending moments and shear forces are applied according to the target values. This tool, the linear slicer, integrates the applied loads and presents the values as graphs along the model together with the target loads.

Panel code checking according to PULS and the CSR Tank requirements has been developed as an integrated part of GeniE. Buckling capacity panels are automatically created, but with the possibility to make manual changes to the geometry and orientation to override simplifications made in the modelling. The panels can also be exported to PULS AV for further Postprocessing. To speed up the buckling capacity calculations a new module for parallel execution of PULS on multi-core processors was developed. Compared to sequential processing a factor of 6.14 was gained with a standard 2 quad-core processor computer. For better handling of larger models the new version of GeniE can also utilize more RAM on 64 bit computers.

GeniE is one of DNVs core products offered to the offshore and maritime industries for use in their engineering processes. The investments will continue in the years to come to make it more efficient for it's users and to gain market shares.
