DNV Software and DNV Energy joined forces to ensure DNV had a high profile at the 12th International Symposium on Loss Prevention and Safety Promotion in the Process Industries held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 22nd to 24th May.

Both DNV Software and DNV Energy were well represented at this major international conference which is held in a European city every three years. The conference was well attended with around 500 delegates from industry and academia, mainly from around Europe but with a good number of attendees from the rest of the world. Papers were presented on a broad and diverse array of topics as one would expect from such a prestgious event. One area of significant interest was the outcome of investigations by a number of organisations including BP and the US government’s Chemical Safety Board following the Texas City incident.
DNV Software presented two papers at the symposium on topics of strategic interest.
The first of these papers identified a number of applications where the recently released financial extension to Phast could be used to improve business performance. This paper entitled “Financial Risk Analysis and its Practical Application to Improved Business Performance” was authored by Nic Cavanagh, Pascal Le Gal and Jeremy Linn and was presented by Mike Johnson from DNV Software’s Houston Office. The paper builds on the development of the quantitative financial extensions available in Phast and describes case study examples of practical application of the tools.
The second paper entitled “QRA’s for Dutch Installations. II. Overview of Risk Tool SAFETI-NL Selected by the Dutch Government” was written by Henk Witlox and David Worthington from DNV Software, UK, and was paired with a paper by the Dutch government (RIVM) on the national QRA model Safeti-NL supplied to them by DNV Software, thus srengthening the already excellent relationship between DNV Software and RIVM. Both papers are available for download.
DNV Energy and DNV Software also hosted a stand in the conference exhibition which was well attended by delegates throughout the conference. There was great interest in software and services, both from existing and new customers.
