China Ship Scientific Research Center

Founded in 1951, China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC) is a unique scientific research institute engaging mainly in the specialized and applied fundamental researches on hydrodynamics and structural mechanics with respect to ships and offshore structures.

Led by Prof. Gu Miao Xiang, CSSRC carried out systematic research work on ocean engineering as early as the 1980s. This research included theoretical and experimental investigation on hydrodynamic characteristics of offshore floating structures such as TLP, semi-submersible, as well as fatigue reliability of tubular joint of offshore structures.

With the most comprehensive experiment facilities of ocean engineering in Asia, and high-qualified scientific and technical staff, CSSRC would like to offer services in R&D, model experimentation and consultation in concept design for various floating offshore structures.

“Sesam will be an important implement of our own-developed codes and experiment facilities, helping us to take the challenges in the developing market of ocean engineering in China.” says Prof. Zhu Dexiang, Vice Director of CSSRC. “Now, we are looking forward to more close cooperation with DNV in research and innovation on ship and offshore technology”.

The Sesam Floating Structures Package, consisting of GeniE, HydroD and DeepC, presents to worldwide clients the market leading software solution for design and verification of floating offshore structures in deep-sea. Such package can offer hydrostatic, hydrodynamic and coupled analysis, as well as structural strength, buckling and fatigue assessment for various floating offshore structures in deep sea. Seamless communication between different modules in the Sesam system insures the time-efficiency and quality within the integrated design loop.

With the demands from Chinese offshore oil and gas industry to move into deep waters, the main energy companies, design and research institutes, as well as the big shipyards, are holding together to build the competence and develop the new concept for oil production system suitable for 1500m deep water of South China Sea. With the state-of-the-art software solution and technology and local technical support service, DNV Software is now helping various players in such campaigns taking place in China. Previous to CSSRC, several strategic research and design units have chosen Sesam in China, among them:

  • China Classification Society (CCS)
  • CNOOC Engineering Ltd.
  • CNOOC Research Center
  • CNPC Liaohe Petroleum
  • Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC)
  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University
