Following on from the successful user conferences in Mexico, Philadelphia and London, DNV Software was pleased to hold the final conference of 2006 at its Shanghai office from 9th-10th November 2006. This was the first ever Safeti User Conference held in China and given the entusiastic attendance and positive feedback we plan for this to become an annual event in this important growing market for Safeti. With more than 40 attendees from all over China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan, this final meeting in the series brought the overall attendance at the 4 conferences held around the world during October and November to more than 150 delegates.

All delegates and presenters gather in the grounds of DNV's Shanghai office.

The 2 day conference included a diverse range of both practical and technical presentations by DNV Software staff and local customers. After a welcome and introduction by Regional Manager Øystein Goksøyr, the Safeti Product Marketing Manager, Dr Nic Cavanagh, kicked off the conference with a keynote address entitled “The overall strategy and future plans for the Safeti Product Suite”. This was particularly well received by the audience which included a mixture of both experienced and new users. Further presentations followed on a wide range of topics including an example of using Safeti to manage LPG storage risks, an overview of the content of recent and scheduled releases, integration with CAD, use of Safeti in pipeline QRA, Financial Risk extensions to Safeti and the next generation Safeti architecture. Zhang Guohui from SINOPEC QRISE and Li Yuhua from DNV Energy Shanghai gave presentations on their experience of using Safeti which proved extremely popular with the audience, prompting lengthy discussion and debate in common with the user presentations at the other meetings. The presentation from SINOPEC focused on "Dispersion area calculation for an LNG tank rupture" whilst the DNV Energy presentation gave an overview of Safeti used in a project. We would like to thank both presenters for their valuable contribution to the meeting. In addition, Colin Yeh from DNV Software Taiwan took the opportunity to introduce the Orbit+ suite through his presentaion on “Orbit+ in a Safeti Context” outlining DNV Software’s total process safety solution capabilities.

The audience listens intently to the keynote lecture.

We also included the traditional user feedback forum which as usual proved extremely popular. This is an open forum with a panel of DNV experts available to answer any questions or discuss any feedback which delegates may have. The panel in Shanghai consisted of Nic Cavanagh, Colin Hickey from the Safeti Product Management Team in London and Colin Yeh from DNV Software Taiwan. One session was dedicated to this topic on each afternoon of the conference and we were able to answer a wide variety of customer questions during these sessions. The complete list of questions along with the answers given will be available on the DNV Software web site along with the presentations from all four meetings in the next few weeks.
