In 1963 DNV, together with Central Institute for Industrial Research (SI), arranged the first scientific conference in the world on “Numerical Methods Applied to Shipbuilding”. The conference was sponsored by NATO.
A/S Computas was established in 1968 running a brand-new UNIVAC 1108 – the largest in Norway at that time.
Sesam™ 69 enters the market early in the seventies.
In the beginning of the seventies the PILOT programmes, dealing with hydro statistics and class requirements, were delivered to the market.
In May 1985, Veritec Sesam System A/S was established to further develop and market the Sesam 80 finite-element computer program.
DNV acquired Technica in 1990. This acquisition opened up the opportunities for the provision of risk based software solutions to the process and offshore industries. It brought with it market leading products, Safeti for Onshore Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Phast for analysing the consequences of releases of hazardous materials and OHRAT, later to be superseded by NEPTUNE, for offshore QRA. This software legacy goes back to the early 1980’s when work started on SAFETI and PHAST under a number of joint industry projects with key major international clients in the oil, gas and chemical industries.
In 1991 the “SESAM™ Towards 2000” project was initiated with contributions from significant oil majors.
One year later, DNV Classification A/S decided to incorporate product modelling techniques as a vehicle to improve information management both internally and externally. The Nauticus project was started.
After more than 4 years of development – Nauticus Hull™ was launched to the market in 1996.
The Nauticus Production System was put into operation in February 1999. Today this system is in daily use by more than 2000 DNV staff members and is also accessible, in a secure manner, by more than 10.000 external users.
ORBIT Onshore & Offshore products for risk based inspection release.
DNV Software, as organised today, was established in June 2000 following the decision to concentrate the business responsibility for the Nauticus™, Sesam™, Brix™, and Risk Management Solutions products and services into an independent business unit (IBU) within DNV.
As a Sesam 2000 project deliverable – Genie™ enters the market in 2001.
Today, DNV Software is present in 9 countries, serving more than 55 countries with more than 30 products & solutions. In total, the business unit has more than 3000 customers world wide.
