Purpose

The testing of materials, components and structural elements are performed to verify compliance with requirements given in specifications and standards. When requirements are not defined, DNV can assist in the development of these and perform testing accordingly.

Features

The testing comprises:

  • Qualification of new technical solutions or ”best industry practise”, often combined with the DNV Recommended Practice for qualification of new
  • Development of rules and standards - calibration of design equations
  • Design verification and proof load testing
  • Production verification testing.

DNV also has fully equipped laboratories for component and standardised materials testing. The services cover testing of metallic materials, thermoplastic materials, elastomers and fibre reinforced plastics. Typical services are testing in connection with qualification of materials (e.g. qualification of welding procedures), as part of material verification efforts and for development of new materials or new applications of existing materials.
