Purpose

Provide our customers the confidence of using advanced composite materials in a safe and reliable way.

Benefits

Optimal design using performance-based safety factors calibrated by probabilistic methods. Providing a link of production methods to material properties confirmed by laboratory testing. Experience and advice on how to join composite components to the main structure, typically built in metal.

Features

DNV facilitated the introduction of composite materials for lightweight, corrosion resistant structures in the maritime sector. The DNV Rules for High Speed Light Craft were the first, and are now the most proven, for composite designs. We went on to support the introduction of composites in the offshore and process industries, by issuing the only existing industry standard for composite components offshore. Since then, DNV has developed recommended practices for risers and rules for CNG pressure vessels.

We support qualification of new composite technology for:

  • Pipes
  • Storage tanks
  • Shafts and risers
  • LNG storage and transport
  • Pressure vessels
  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Steel structure repair without hot work.
