The directives apply to a wide range of products. The most notable products that need CE-marking are:
- equipment for use in potentially explosive environments
- electrical and electronic equipment
- machinery of almost any description
- medical devices and equipment
- pressure equipment
There are certain exclusions, but if you manufacture any of the above types of equipment or products then one or more of the directives almost certainly apply. DNV is a notified body for the following directives:
- ATEX Directive (equipment, protective systems, components, and safety devices in potentially explosive atmospheres)
- Construction Product Directive (construction products)
- EMC Directive (appparatus liable to cause electromagnetic disturbance or the performance of which is liable to be affected by such disturbance)
- Lifts Directive (safety components, whole lifts: manufacture and installation)
- Low Voltage Directive (electrical safety - all electrical equipment with a voltage rating of 50-1000 V AC and 75-1500 V DC)
- Machinery Directive (machinery and cranes)
- Marine Equipment Directive (marine equipment like life-saving appliances and navigation equipment)
- Medical Devices Directive (general medical devices, devices to be implanted in humans, and diagnosis equipment)
- Pressure Equipment Directive (design verification, material selection, manufacturing/fabrication practices and qualification, product testing, product marking and user instruction compilation)
- R&TTE Directive (radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment)
- Recreational Craft Directive (crafts with length from 2,5 to 24 metres)
