Main changes for the the chapters which has been changed are included in the table below.

PART 0

INTRODUCTION

Chapter 1

User Information, Current Rule Chapters and Index

Main changes in Pt.0 Ch.1 coming into force 1 July 2011

• Sec.2 Current Rule Chapters

Class Notations

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2011

• Sec.1 Class Notations

— Table C1:

— The qualifiers Vessel and Barge have been included for the optional notation Wind Turbine Installation. Rule references have been corrected.

— New class notation Windfarm Maintenance has been added.

— Table C2: Class notations REGAS-1 and REGAS-2 have been merged into REGAS.

— Table C4: Class notation RATE-A has been deleted.

Chapter 1

Machinery Systems, General

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2011

• The chapter has been revised

— The scope is to give general requirements for machinery that can be used to evaluate both conventional and novel designs.

— The July 2010 edition of Pt.4 Ch.1 have been re-instated and the January 2011 edition has been made tentative and moved to Appendix A of this chapter.

— Appendix A - Tentative rules for function based machinery, general, is intended for novel design of a component, a system or the complete arrangement of a vessel.

— Clarifications of application of the tentative rules in Appendix A have been made in Sec.1 of this chapter.

— All references made to Pt.4 Ch.1 elsewhere in the rules have been generalised and will refer to this chapters top level only.

Chapter 9

Control and Monitoring Systems

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012

• General

— Software and hardware change handling requirements have been amended, also requirements for remote software maintenance.

— Guidance notes have been amended related to the documentation requirements, in particular related to the FMEA requirements.

— Requirements for on-board testing of the remote control system and associated machinery have been slightly amended

— Power supply requirements for control and monitoring systems amended and aligned with Pt.4 Ch.8.

— A new requirement for consistent use of naming and tagging of the main components has been added.

— The requirement for certification of remote control systems for vessel's main functions was moved from Pt.4 Ch.1.

— Definitions of emergency- and primary alarms have been deleted. These notations are no longer relevant, as the basic definition is found in Code on alerts and indicators (IMO).

• Sec.4 Additional Requirements for Computer Based Systems

— C501 is modified in order to be in line with UR E22 / Rev.1 Sept 2010, opening for the use of wireless systems.

— A107: Notations are updated in accordance with Sec.5.

— B1207: Rule references have been changed to “Standard for Certification No. 2.23”.

• Sec.5 Dry Bulk Cargo Carriers

— The entire section is updated in accordance with SOLAS and accumulated experience.

• Sec.6 Container Carriers

— A107: The voluntary class notation SafeLash is introduced, with requirements given in new sub-section H. Safe Access to Containers.

— A202: For ships assigned the notation Container Carrier, and constructed with NV-47 steel a reference is made to the newly introduced Classification Note No. 30.10.

— B210 and B211: The requirements for combined stresses (nominal and hot spot) are written in a more simplified manner (editorial changes).

— B212: For fatigue assessment of hatch corners, the procedure for calculating the global stress range is made more clear.

— B217: A minimum requirement to thickness in way of cross decks is introduced.

— C310: Requirements to connection area in way of support of stiffeners is made more industry compliant.

— C402: Design load cases for FE cargo hold model are updated to be more industry compliant.

— The previous sub-sections D and E have been deleted and the sub-sequent sub-sections renumbered. The requirements related to certification of container securing equipment, and materials and welding, are moved to the new Standard for Certification No. 2.23.

— E301: The transverse acceleration formula for containers on deck has been changed back to the formula from the July 2009 edition.

— Previous sub-section I300, relating to application of unprotected openings in damage stability calculations, has been deleted.

• Sec.8 Enhanced Strength for Bulk Carriers

— Sub-sections A, B, C, D and E are updated in accordance with Sec.5.

Chapter 3

Oil Carriers

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2011

• General

— At least the same material yield strength as the attached corrugation and Z grade steel is required for connecting plate of vertically corrugated bulkheads without stool.

— For vertically corrugated bulkhead and moulded depth equal to or greater than 16 m, a lower stool is to be fitted.

— Mandatory brackets in line with web of corrugations.

• Sec.2 Materials and Hull Strength

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012

• Sec.10 Fire Safety

— References have been changed to directly refer to SOLAS Ch. II-2 in lieu no longer relevant parts of the DNV rules and without reproducing the relevant SOLAS text. Document requirements have been standardized in table format and reflect the actual rule requirements. Additional rule requirements have been added to better cover the typical naval vessel design and operational needs. Rule text already covered by the SOLAS references has been removed, to avoid unnecessary duplication of the same requirement.

Chapter 15

Compressed Natural Gas Carriers

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012
