• Sec.8 Iron Castings

— Guidance for clearances was removed from Rules in 2009.

Chapter 9

Control and Monitoring Systems

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012

• General

— Software and hardware change handling requirements have been amended, also requirements for remote software maintenance.

— Guidance notes have been amended related to the documentation requirements, in particular related to the FMEA requirements.

— Requirements for on-board testing of the remote control system and associated machinery have been slightly amended

— Power supply requirements for control and monitoring systems amended and aligned with Pt.4 Ch.8.

— A new requirement for consistent use of naming and tagging of the main components has been added.

— The requirement for certification of remote control systems for vessel's main functions was moved from Pt.4 Ch.1.

— Definitions of emergency- and primary alarms have been deleted. These notations are no longer relevant, as the basic definition is found in Code on alerts and indicators (IMO).

• Sec.4 Additional Requirements for Computer Based Systems

— C501 is modified in order to be in line with UR E22 / Rev.1 Sept 2010, opening for the use of wireless systems.

Chapter 14

Naval and Naval Support Vessels

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012

• Sec.10 Fire Safety

— References have been changed to directly refer to SOLAS Ch. II-2 in lieu no longer relevant parts of the DNV rules and without reproducing the relevant SOLAS text. Document requirements have been standardized in table format and reflect the actual rule requirements. Additional rule requirements have been added to better cover the typical naval vessel design and operational needs. Rule text already covered by the SOLAS references has been removed, to avoid unnecessary duplication of the same requirement.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS - ADDITIONAL CLASS

Chapter 3

Periodically Unattended Machinery Space

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012

• Sec.1 General Requirements

— Update of the documentation requirement Table B1 in line with general guidelines.

— In sub-section element C100, maintenance manual changed name to “plan for periodical test”.

— In item C202, new Guidance note, guidance for test methods, test equipment and calibration added.

— In item C301, test intervals for critical alarms changed from 3 to 6 months.

Chapter 1

Survey Requirements

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2012:

• Sec. 4 Renewal Surveys - Hull and Equipment

— Amended item B106 with requirement for survey of bulkhead shaft seals.

• Sec.5 Miscellaneous Main Class Surveys

— Amended item A104 with alternate bottom surveys afloat for naval crafts.

— New sub-section A500 with requirements for bottom survey afloat.


2. Rule chapters with amendments

For all rule chapters: The restricted use legal clause found in Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.4 has been added also on the front page. In addition, the layout has been changed to one column in order to improve electronic readability.
